The Westside of Atlanta needs community resources and educational centers that offer culturally relevant teaching and tools. Author and activist Supreme Understanding recently opened Timbuktu ATL as a space where culture and commerce coincide. We have offered free workshops to the community teaching how to become an independent artist, jeweler, vendor, author, and mentor. We have provided spaces for Black-owned business like the People’s Flea Market and Conscious Minerals by IShine. We make everything affordable so we can beat meet the needs of the local community.
Recently, we had a leak in our water line which flooded our basement. We will need to dig up a section of our parking lot to repair this leak. We have set our budget high for this project so that we can renovate the basement and the parking lot at once, rather than bootstrapping our way through each piece of the process. This way we can continue serving the community and do so at a higher level.
Excess funds will be applied to redesigning the outside space for community events and providing transportation services for our “From the Hood to the Woods” program, as well as redesigning the interior of the space.
