Our curriculum covers what most national standards suggest every student should learn by a certain age (or grade) and SO MUCH more.

Our Curricular Design

How are skills taught developmentally in an interest-based child-centered curriculum?

Reading and Language Arts are part of every experience! Whatever we do, explore, or learn, we keep journals and take notes and make observations and develop questions to investigate. We create sharable pieces of literature from these notes.

Math is everywhere so we look for it! Whenever applicable, we use math as relevant. If something has parts or units involved, or if there’s a profit potential for an idea, we calculate it.

We create things that show what we’ve learned. At SOIL, we offer project-based learning opportunities, meaning you do meaningful work with useful applications in the real world.

  • Every week offers an independent learning unit
  • Each month is based on a broader learning goal
  • Each semester has a large culminating project and presentation
  • Every day is an amazing day of unique student-centered learning!

SCIENCE AND NATURE

  • Every week we plant new seeds and document their growth until they are transplanted and brought home.
  • Every month we cover a progression of types of plants.
  • Every semester we establish local community gardens and harvest the fruits of our labor and share it with the community.
  • Every day we learn new things about the earth, nature, science, and sustainable ecology.

BUSINESS AND MATH

  • Every week we create a business plan and use math science and language arts to execute it.
  • Every month we launch a business fair and share our endeavors with the public.
  • Every semester we develop our projects into a sustainable family based business.
  • Every day we learn new things about math, business, language and social studies.

WRITING AND PUBLISHING

  • Every week we write parts of a book and publish it online.
  • Every month we compile our content and publish it as an ebook.
  • Every semester we take our best content and publish it as a real book for bookstores and schools.
  • Every day we learn new things about writing, research, art, and literature.

THE ARTS

  • Every week we learn new skills in the culinary arts, martial arts, and the performing and visual arts.
  • Every month we assemble a fair to showcase our new talents.
  • Every semester we send students onto advanced programs in these fields.
  • Every day we learn new things about all the amazing things we can do as individuals and as a community rich in righteous culture.
