The City of Stockbridge is located in the northern part of Henry County, Georgia. The county has an area of approximately 331 square miles located in the Piedmont Section of northern Georgia and is surrounded by the counties of Butts, Clayton, Dekalb, Newton, Rockdale and Spalding Counties.

Conveniently located 20 miles south of Atlanta and 12 miles east of the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Stockbridge is often recognized as the gateway to Henry County. It also serves as a gateway for cities further south along I-75, with Macon less than an hour away.

Stockbridge has an overall sense of community fostered through family friendly events and city-wide activities, as well as the city’s quiet and safe small town feel as assets contributing to their quality of life. As of the 2010 census the population was 25,637.

Supportive economic development, excellent public services and fabulous small town hospitality are all reasons why Stockbridge continues to enjoy tremendous growth. We take pride in our community and quality businesses.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s Stockbridge’s population surged by 750% infusing the community with talented workers and metropolitan wealth. The Renaissance Strategic Vision and Plan (RSVP), designed by UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, harvested enthusiastic sentiments from a diverse cross section of the community, to depict a downtown master plan with a focused outlook for the future growth of Stockbridge.

Stockbridge has seen the job market increase by 2.9% over the last year. Future job growth over the next ten years is predicted to be 45.4%, which is higher than the US average of 33.5%. – The Sales Tax Rate for Stockbridge is 7.0%. The US average is 7.3%.

Stockbridge is the largest city in a county that is amongst the fastest-growing and diversifying in the state. In 2016, named it one of the top ten best cities in the nation for African Americans. Just before the mortgage crash, it was fourth in the U.S. in housing starts. Its location near Atlanta’s busy Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, cheaper housing stock for people priced out of the city of Atlanta, and Stockbridge’s growing reputation as “Hollywood South” all make it a location where more and more families are considering settling.
