MACON, Ga. — Most would look at this area of land on Forsyth Street in Macon and just see trash hidden in the leaves.

Carl Myers sees this land as an opportunity to build on. He and others plan to build a community garden there.

“We’re taking kids through the whole process. The cleaning up, building the plant bed, gardening and reaping the harvest,” Myers said.

Revitalization is a topic he learned about while he was in prison, serving a sentence for robbery. He now wants to implement some of those ideas he learned about in his own community.

“When I got in prison I ran across books with the author that co-owns this space. It educated me and moved to me to be active in the community,” Myers said.

The author of some books Myers read while he was in prison goes by the name of “Supreme Understanding”. The pair bought the land together where the community garden will be.

Right now, he and others are clearing land by removing the trash and leaves that cover the property to grow a greener future.

“We want to teach agriculture there. It would be youth-orientated, but it will be for the community,” Myers explained.
