\nwhite folks too) didn\u2019t go back to prison, thanks to a greater understanding of self, allowing them to raise families!

\nmost of us can relate to!
\nYET HERE\u2019S WHAT\u2019S CRAZY…
\nOur books are banned in prison! Yes, in prison systems across the
\ncountry. Not just the self-empowerment guide, even science-based
\ntexts like The Science of Self are banned!
\nYou don\u2019t just get a reprimand for reading our books, you go to the
\nhole!
\nSolitary confinement. 23 hour lockdown.
\nFor inhumane stretches of time. For reading self-help literature?
\nWHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
\nHere\u2019s what anyone should know about these books.
\n1. There\u2019s never been an incident of violence or unrest related
\nto our books or their readers. Yet these books are considered a
\n\u201csecurity threat\u201d because they \u201cthreaten the functioning\u201d of some
\nfacilities. What functions are being threatened by inmates reading
\nand becoming study-oriented and wanting to improve themselves
\nand help others?
\n2. The books don\u2019t increase criminality! Despite the attentioncatching headlines, this book shows people how and why NOT to
\nbe criminal, and how to live righteously. They explore the risks of
\npoor choices and how to live wisely for a better future. Who does
\nthis threaten?
\n3. Mental health goes UP when people read. When they read empowering literature, they are less likely to engage in self-destructive
\nbehavior and spend less time stressing and reacting!
\n4. Recidivism goes DOWN when you read our books. When
\nyoung warriors enter the prison system and encounter our books
\nand the guidance that comes with them, they rarely reoffend! Is
\nthis ultimately what threatens the functioning of these facilities?
\nThat prisoners don\u2019t come back?
\n5. Book banning is like slavery! In fact, since prison remains the
\nonly legal form of slavery not abolished by the Constitution or its
\nAmendments, perhaps literate and self-motivated people are indeed a threat to the functioning of the system.
\nPrisons are profitable – is recidivism the goal? Are we being targeted
\nfor cutting into the free labor that keeps this industry in business?
\nWho thinks this is wrong?
\nIs this why Michelle Alexander\u2019s The New Jim Crow was once banned in
\nprisons as well? Was it dangerous for Black people to learn that prison
\nwas modern day slavery because it might shake some out of accepting
\nthat lot as their life? What do our books do that warrants them still being on this ban list?
\nIF PRISON ISN\u2019T SLAVERY, WHY IS LITERACY SO
\nDANGEROUS?
\nWhy are inmates treated so harshly simply for owning The Science of
\nSelf, a scientific text full of references on geneology, astronomy, and
\nevolutionary history? Or a health text called The Hood Health Handbook?
\nOr a history book on ancient Black civilizations?
\nWhat do the prisoners forced into solitary as a \u201csecurity threat group\u201d
\nfor owning a book called Knowledge of Self or Black God have to denounce about themselves to get free? It just sounds crazy.
\nThese books are used in universities and schools, so we\u2019re sure
\nthey don\u2019t espouse hatred – only self love and self development.
\nThey\u2019re also nonfiction works full of references. So what\u2019s really happening here?
\nWe know prison education program push profits over people and typically don\u2019t help. Our books do. Is that the problem?
\nAre educated Black and Hispanic (or Indigenous\/Native) people that
\nscary – that books teaching ancestral values and self-empowerment must be banned – and people who have done nothing else
\n\u201cwrong\u201d must be thrown in 23 hour SOLITARY CONFIEMENT simply for having them in their possession?
\nLET\u2019S MAKE A CHANGE!
\nAll that to say – time for our books and readers to be given a break!
\nIf you\u2019re of moral conscience, you know there\u2019s no good reason
\nfor any of it.
\nI considered editing each line that some official had cited as their \u201cevidence\u201d these books could cause problems, but I soon realized I could
\nrewrite the books in full and they\u2019d still end up blocked somehow.
\nThat\u2019s when I realized this was a First Amendment kind of situation,
\nand predominantly Black and Hispanic people are being stripped of
\ntheir civil and human rights! Meanwhile, you can find white nationalist
\nliterature like Mein Kampf in many prison libraries! Something is seriously wrong here!
\nRather than spend our time trying to change these books any further,
\nI\u2019d like to raise a demand for prisoners to be given their rights, including the right to educate themselves and read empowering literature
\nthat changes lives.

\ncan benefit most from it – those incarcerated and with opportunity to
\ntruly \u201crehabilitate\u201d themselves, end recidivism, and help others to
